Trenitalia’s Thello Night Trains

Owned and operated by the Italian railway company Trenitalia, Thello high-speed night trains let you catch up on your sleep in sheer comfort. Unlike conventional passenger trains, Thello coaches don’t have a typical seating layout. Instead, they are made up of 1- to 3-bed sleeper cabins and larger 4- to 6-berth (bed) couchette compartments.

Thello E-Ticket Fare Types

Thello e-tickets are ideal for travelers who want to make an overnight journey from Milan to Paris by train. Tickets include a reservation for a specified sleeper/berth. To travel in beds or couchettes on night trains, passengers are required to travel with a valid ID card or passport.

Child discount

Children between 4 and 14 years old receive a discount on the adult fare in Base Fare only. Children under 4 years old travel for free, provided they share the accompanying adult’s bed or couchette.

Thello Night Train Comfort Classes

Cabins (1-3 beds)

Suited for 1 to 3 persons. Individual beds are grouped in designated female passenger and male passenger cabins. Each cabin has 1, 2 or 3 beds, a wash basin with towels and a power outlet. Beds are 180 x 80 cm in size and come fitted with sheets, a covered duvet plus a pillow encased in a cotton pillowcase. A complimentary travelkit containing essential toiletries and a bottle of water are supplied. A welcome drink and breakfast are included in the ticket price.

Couchette compartments (4-6 berths)

Ideal for small groups or friends traveling together. May be purchased as designated female passenger or male passenger compartments. While the 6-berth compartment offers the cheapest option for overnight travel, the 4-berth compartment is perhaps the best solution for the budget-conscious who need more personal space. Couchette compartments have a room temperature control. Each berth comes with a bedding kit and complimentary bottle of water. Separate washrooms and sinks are provided in each railcar.

Luggage

Two pieces of luggage and one piece of hand luggage per passenger allowed. No weight restrictions.

Bicycles

Bicycles are not allowed on board, though dismantled bikes can be carried in bags, with respect to Thello’s luggage policy.

Animals

Pets 5 kg in weight or less are allowed on board, provided they are accommodated in a cage or bag no bigger than 50 x 30 x 25 cm in size. Large dogs up to 50 kg in weight are allowed to travel in 1-, 2- or 3-bed cabins for exclusive use of their owners and under the owners’ responsibility, upon payment of a ticket on board.
