Details

This rail pass is valid for travel between Tokyo and the central area of the main island to exciting destinations such as Nagano and Niigata. This 5 day Consecutive pass includes unlimited travel aboard sections of the Tohoku Shinkansen, Yamagata Shinkansen, Joetsu Shinkansen and Hokuriku Shinkansen.

Where can the pass be used?

Unlimited travel throughout the Nagano, Niigata Area, including 4 Shinkansen Super Express Lines (Bullet Trains).

Covered Shinkansen lines:

      – Joetsu Shinkansen (Tokyo to Niigata, GALA Yuzawa Station)

      Hokuriku Shinkansen (Tokyo to Joetsumyoko Station)

      Tohoku Shinkansen (Tokyo to Nasushiobara Station)

Limited Express trains:

      Azusa, Kaiji, Hachioji, Ome, Shinano (certain sections), Fuji Excursion (certain sections), Narita Express, Hitachi (certain sections), Wakashio, and more.

Local and express trains:

      – Yamanote Line, Izu Kyuko, Tokyo Monorail & Hokuetsu Express – all lines.

Other included transport (lines partially available)

Limited express trains operated jointly by JR East and Tobu Railway (Nikko, Kinugawa, Spacia Kinugawa). 

* Pass holders can take Tobu Railway lines only if the train either departs from or terminates at a JR station. * Trains arriving/departing Asakusa station cannot be used. 

Local and express trains (Imaichi Station ~ Tobu Nikko Station and Kinugawa·Onsen Station

Echigo Tokimeki Railway (between Naoetsu and Arai stations).

Children: A children’s pass is required for children of age group 6-11. 

Infant

Infants: Children under 5 years old can travel free if they do not require a reserved seat.

Types & Validities

5 consecutive days: From the date of exchange, the pass is valid for 5 consecutive days.

Exchange: The voucher must be exchanged for the pass at the designated exchange location in Japan within 3 months from the purchase date.

Starting Date: The user must select a start date at the exchange location in Japan. This start date must be within 1 month of the date of exchange. Once the pass is exchanged, the starting date cannot be modified.

Seat Reservations

Making Reservations:

Seats can be reserved without an extra charge.

Reservations can be made online via the “JR-EAST Train Reservation” website:

At JR East stations, insert the rail pass into the JR East Reserved Seat Ticket Vending Machines for reservations (Note: Some ticket offices may not support this service, but reservations are still available at JR EAST Travel Service Centers).

Note: Seat reservations cannot be made for Tokaido & Sanyo Shinkansen or Kyushu Shinkansen.

Additional Details

How to Exchange the E-Voucher:

Exchange the voucher at a designated JR EAST exchange office within 3 months. A copy of the customer’s passport cannot be used to collect a pass.

A valid paper voucher or e-voucher and passport with temporary visa must be presented during exchange.

When exchanging at a designated exchange location in Japan, the customer is required to specify the starting date. The starting date must be within one month from the date of exchange. Once the pass is exchanged the starting date cannot be modified.

While the validity period overlaps, the same type of pass cannot be issued. Please select a starting date that would not overlap the validity period. Different types of passes (Tohoku area / Nagano, Niigata area) can be exchanged even if the validity period overlaps.

Restrictions

Passport Requirement: The name entered at the time of booking must match the name on the passport exactly. If they do not match, the JR EAST PASS cannot be exchanged in Japan.

Child and Adult Definitions: The classification of adult or child is based on the age when the pass is purchased.

Consecutive Usage: The pass is valid for 5 consecutive days from the starting date; it cannot be extended or refunded once activated.

Other Information

Required Items: Passport and E-Voucher

Lost Pass: If the pass is lost, it cannot be reissued, even with a record or a copy of the E-Voucher.

Travel Outside the Pass Area: If a customer takes trains outside the designated area or uses facilities not covered by the pass, additional fees will apply.
