Taking advantage of our passes, we hopped on the train from Copenhagen and headed over to Roskilde, the original capital of Denmark. It was an easy 20-minute ride between cities. We visited Roskilde Domkirke (Cathedral) and learned a lot about the royal family, their allies and enemies, political battles and so much more over the centuries! I definitely understand where books and series like Game of Thrones got their inspiration from!
We also paid a visit to the Viking Museum, where we saw several ships re-built from wrecks over the last few decades. We even got to build our very own tiny ship and left behind a souvenir of our visit.
Back in Copenhagen, we popped into both Amelienborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle for more history and walked through the beautiful Botanical Gardens. We visited TorvehallerneKBH food hall right before closing to taste some more yummy food. We’re not sure why, but this great spot closed at 7pm the day we visited!
We then headed to Tivoli, a magical amusement park in the middle of Copenhagen. This place is filled with restaurants, rides, games, concerts, an aquarium, beautiful flowers and so much more. It was another highlight of the trip.
We even got to visit one of Denmark’s lovely beaches on our last day. We found a local beach called Svanemolle that was quite popular with the locals. It was a perfect afternoon to wrap up our trip.
We certainly felt that though we covered a lot of ground in Copenhagen, Billund and Roskilde, that there was still so much to discover in Denmark. Our Eurail passes made it so easy to get around!
