Have you always wanted to see cherry blossom trees at their peak blossom period in real life? Planning a trip to Japan in the future? Well, we’re here to help you out! We found a couple of amazing places on the island of Kyushu that you can easily visit with our Kyushu Rail Pass . First thing you need to know is that the blooming period is approximately at the end of March until early April but can be subject to change due to weather conditions. Now, here are our top places to visit in Kyushu:
Kumamoto
Kumamoto is the capital of Kyushu so there is a big chance that this will be your first stop on Kyushu Island. The city is known for multiple landmarks but Kumamoto Castle is the most popular one. Kumamoto Castle is a fortified castle built on a hill. If you are looking to mix history and nature, this is the place to be. Kumamoto Castle is home to over 800 cherry blossom trees. It is a beautiful place to spend a few hours and learn more about Japan’s rich history.

If ever you are in Kyushu, Nagasaki is a must on your list. Omura Park is known for the ancestral home in ruins that belonged to the Omura clan. The second spot is Nagasaki Peace Park which is a memorial park for the atomic bomb attack.

It’s not as busy as Tokyo but is fairly modern and has good public transit services. It is also an amazing place to go find some cherry blossom trees! We have brought the list down to three places. Depending on your type of trip, Fukuoka has great options. The most recommended spot is to go to the Fukuoka Castle. However, if you are travelling with kids, Uminonakamichi Seaside Park is a great place to see the trees in bloom and a water park is always a great activity for the kids! Lastly, you can also find cherry blossom trees at Atago Shrine.
